Operator: San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA)

Sub Title

Project Overview:

Four new stations were completed in San Francisco along the 1.7 mile extension of the Third Line from 4th Street Caltran Station to the Chinatown Station using an approach known as “deep tunneling” in order to undertake most of the construction.

  • 4th and Brannan Station at 4th and Brannan Streets (street level)
  • Yerba Buena/Moscone Station at 4th and Folsom Streets (subway)
  • Union Square/Market Street Station on Stockton Street at Union Square (subway)
  • Chinatown Station at Stockton and Washington Streets (subway)

Project Objective:

San Francisco is well known for their unique public transportation system of trolley coaches and trains. However, with a growing population, as well as being an epicenter for tourism and business, the demand for public transportation outgrew its current capabilities.
